OFFICIAL UMA RULES AND REGS
Fellow Marauders,
We've come a long way since the Marauders came into existence in 1987. At that
time it was four fellows endlessly pounding the water out of two fourteen foot
rowboats on lakes Ballard and Irving. Now, the club has includes multiple
generations, in-laws and good friends and we fish multiple lakes in multiple
counties in the Northwoods. And, we catch a lot more muskies than the original
four Marauders ever envisioned.
Approximately 10 years ago Ojibwa Jim Marventano and I, on a whim, stopped at a
bowling trophy store in Rochester, NY and conceived the Ultimate Marauder Award.
We purchased the gaudiest trophy we could muster up and initiated the award. Who
knew, at that time, that the UMA would become a much sought after trophy that
represents the ultimate in Marauder Musky fishing?!
Over the past several years there have been numerous discussions regarding the
purpose of the trophy and what does and does not count toward the UMA. I'd like
to take a moment of your time to assure that you understand the thought process
that Ojibwa and I went through in creating UMA. And, I'd like to assure that we
all, in attempting to have our names engraved upon this pinnacle of musky
success, live to the spirit as it was initially conceived.
The Charter Members of the Musky Marauders have met to discuss the official UMA rules and are in agreement! Below are the official rules.
UMA RULES AND REGULATIONS
Official Document of the Musky Marauders, Founded 1987.
The Ultimate Marauder Award (UMA) will be awarded to that/those Marauders each year who meet the following criteria…
The largest legal musky caught between the 9:00 am Monday and 6:00 pm Saturday during the official Musky Marauder Annual Hunt. There is a blackout period between 6:00 pm and midnight the evening of Initiation – no fish caught between these hours will qualify for UMA
Esox will be measured to the quarter inch, with anything SHORT of the quarter inch mark (I don't care if it is an angstrom short, (for those of you lacking in quantum mechanics, an angstrom is one-ten billionth of a meter)) being rounded down.
Multiple Marauders with the same size, largest musky, regardless of order of catch, will share the trophy for the year
Tied Marauders will receive their own individual plaque on UMA
Only muskies caught on artificial bait will qualify for UMA
Winning muskies must be attested by a third party
A picture of the Marauder with the fish must be presented – if there is no picture the fish will be disqualified, no matter how many Marauders testify as to the length of the fish.
Plaques will be engraved in the following format:
Year of the hunt
Size of the winning fish only. If the winning Marauder catches multiple fish during the Hunt, only the largest fish will be recorded on the UMA. If a Marauder catches multiple largest fish (e.g. 2 - 45" fish) the plaque will read 45" and not specify the number of fish caught and released.
The Marauder’s call sign and first name.
The plaques on the award shall be used for no other purposes other than UMA.
The reigning UMA champion will present the UMA award to the new UMA champion in a manner befitting the occasion. Should the same Marauder win UMA in consecutive years a Charter Member will present the award to the UMA Champion.
If no legal musky is caught during the official Marauder trip, UMA will remain in possession of the previous year’s champion until an official hunt produces an UMA qualifying musky.
Rules and Regulations are subject to change without notice in order to keep the competition fair and equitable.
