Musky Marauders 2008 – Bad Boys of The Deep
The 2008 Hunt is now history! What a time to be together and celebrate friendship, musky fishing and the memory of Ojibwa Jim.
27 Musky Marauders attended the hunt and sported their Bad Boys of The Deep T-shirts. There were 8 initiates – a new record for a single night initiation!
Of course the musky fishing can always be better, but there were some great moments:
1. Stump Hog’s UMA winning Hawg (guided by Ghost Tail)
4. 8 muskies on Saturday from ONE lake (Marabou, Pan Fish, Stalker & Popper)
6. Tallywacker’s "Almost Legal"
8. Yet another cascade of water over the Brat Rocket
9. Marauders marooned on Forest Lake…rescued by a fair maiden.
10. Swing’n trolling motors.
11. Peanut M&M’s
12. Russets
And, the newly refurbished and expanded UMA was introduced! The most sought after trophy in all musky fishing was unveiled and dedicated to the memory of Ojibwa Jim Marventano. The refurbished trophy has the Original UMA mounted on top of a new expanded base that has 54 new plaques – so this trophy will be around for the next couple of generations – and a laser engraved photo of Ojibwa Jim. It’s important to note that this is the original UMA; while others may claim to have the original UMA -There Is Only One Original and it sits on the Real Musky Marauders UMA Trophy!
The competition for UMA was intense and it seems most fitting that one of Ojibwa’s closest friends, Stump Hog Scott Hanwell won the award.
The Thursday night raffle at Tek Neek’s, prior to initiation, was a great success. There was a unanimous vote that the raffle should be conducted every year! Suick Sean won the grand prize of a new musky rod & reel and numerous other prizes of distinction were awarded. And, post raffle the younger generation of Marauder’s introduced a new pre-initiation procedure with some rather bizarre rituals. Kissing The Bass seems to have been eagerly accepted. editor’s note: J-Hook Joel’s use of tongue might have been going a bit far!
The Star Lake LOMO (nice kilt Tallywacker), The Black Oak, Stillwater’s, the Burnt Bridge, Bent’s Camp, The Bear Trap, The Forest Lake Store, The Frontier … The Original Marauders extended the tradition of camaraderie and local patronage – a great time was had by all.
